Vibrations Flashcards
What makes our vocal chords vibrate?
By pushing air up from your lungs, then it moves through your voice box.
How does sound travel?
It travels by waves.
What causes sound?
Sound is caused by vibrations.
Where does your voice begin?
In you larynx/voice box.
Do sound waves travel in all directions?
Yes.
Can sound waves be seen?
No.
Can sound waves be heard?
No.
Can sound travel through air?
Yes, it can travel through other things as well.
Can sound travel through water?
Yes, water actually carries sound better than air does.
Water waves that are frequent…
Will have a higher pitch.
Water waves that are not frequent…
Will have a lower sound.
Does sound travel better through solids, than through gases?
Yes, because air molecules are farther apart therefore the vibrations do not pass as easily.
Why do men tend to have deeper voices than women?
Men tend to have longer and thicker vocal chords. Since longer and thicker vocal chords vibrate more slowly, they create lower sounds.
How do our ears pick up sound?
The outer ear catches the sound waves. The sound waves are then directed into your head, through the ear canal. Then the eardrum, in the middle ear picks up vibrations.
