5 Properties of sound;
1) Sound travels.
2) Sound can be reflected (it can bounce off of things).
3) Sound can be absorbed (it does not bounce off some things).
4) Sound can be modified/changed (e.g., pitch and loudness).
5) Sound is caused by vibrations.
Why can you hear someone in another room?
Because sound travels.
Why do we hear echoes?
Because sound can bounce.
Why would a recording studio cover their walls with bumpy foam?
The foam would absorb some sound, so that the sound doesn’t travel to other rooms.
What are some objects, which allow us increase the volume of a sound?
A microphone, headphones, megaphone & speakers.
Name some natural sounds.
Birds, singing, whistling, rain, waterfalls, etc.
Name some human made sounds.
A horn, speakers, instruments, etc.
What is sound?
Sound is a vibration that our ears hear.
If a tree falls in a forest and no one hears it, does it make a sound?
Yes, because it still causes the air to vibrate. The vibrations in the air are simply not received by anyone’s ear.
