Describe and explain how HIV leads to aids when antiretroviral drugs are not immediately taken after the infection:
HIV causes a mild flu-like illness and after the initial mild illness, it stays hidden inside the immune system until it is severely damaged that it can no longer fight certain cancers and infections- this is when it is knowns as AIDS
How is HIV spread?
sexual contact or exchange of body fluids such as blood which occurs when drug users share needles
How can HIV be prevented?
condoms, not sharing needled, HIV-positive mothers bottle-feeding their children
What can prevent the development of AIDS?
antiretroviral drugs
What plants does TMV affect?
tomatoes and tobacco plants
Why might TMV affect the growth of the plant?
affected areas of the lead do not photosynthesise
What does TMV cause the plant to have?
a ‘mosaic’ pattern of discoloration on the leaves

contact between diseased plant material and healthy plants

- grow TMV-resistant strains of many crop plants
- good field hygiene and good pest control
