acute eruption of fever, chills, pruritic and erythematous macules and papules starting on face/scalp and spreading to trunk and extremities, evolving to vesicles with cleear fluid

A

shingles! “grouped vesicles with erythema”, breakout of erythematous papules and vesicles along dermatome; may come with burning, pain/paresthesia, malaise, myalgia
does not cross midline

fever, headache, URI symptoms followed by pink macules/papules that spread downward from face with Forchheimer’s spots (red/petechial macules on soft palate) and lymphadenopathy are common

What is the presentation of rubeola?

A

Measles!
3 Cs: cough, coryza (common cold) and conjunctivitis followed by Koplik spots (small white spots with erythematous base) followed by brick red irregular rash, spreads from forehead/hairline to trunk

What is roseola?

A

high fever and classical trunk erythema, morbilliform rash, blanchable macules or papules that begin on trunk and spread to extremities.
Mainly in INFANTS!

A

supportive treatment

How does scarlet fever present?

A

sudden onset fever, pharyngitis, followed by N/V, headache, abdominal pain, strawberry tongue, sandpaper-like rash, desquamation, beau’s lines. Redder in axillary and groin areas

How do you treat scarlet fever (scarlatina)?

A

treat underlying pharyngitis, penicillin, erythromycin

What is erythema infectiosum? “fifth’s disease”

A

low grade fever followed by **bright red, “slapped cheek” appearance ** with circumoral pallor and lacy, reticulated maculopapular rash on extremities followed by trunk

A

miscarriage in pregnancy

How do you diagnose and treat erythema infectiosum?
IgM or PCR Supportive treatment!

sore throat, malaise, cough, headache, followed by erythematous macules becoming painful oral vesicles with erythematous halo yellow-gray vesicle
