(20 cards)
What is a Point?
a point names a location and has no size
What is a Line?
a line is an infinite length of points in one direction and has no breadth
What is a Postulate?
a postulate is a math statement that we assume to be true without proof
Line Postulate:
through any two points there is exactly one line
Plane Postulate
Through any non-collinear points there is exactly one plane that contains them.
What does Collinear mean?
three or more points on the same line
(A-B-C)
What does Coplanar mean?
3 or more points on the same plains
What is a line segment?
“part of a line”
consisting of two end points.
What is an endpoint?
it is a point at one end of a line or ray
What is an Intersection?
an intersection is a set of all points that two figures have in common
What is the Ruler Postulate?
On a number line, a point always has a coordinate.
Subtract the absolute value for each point to get the distance
What is an Angle?
an angle is formed by two rays (or sides) with a common point (vertex).
What is the Protractor Postulate?
every angle is usually shown in degrees.
Every angle has a unique degree
What is Adjacent mean (in terms of angles)
two angles next to each other with a common ray between
What is a Linear Pair?
adjacent angles whose common rays are opposite rays
What is a vertical Angle?
two angles who are opposite rays
What is a complementary pair?
angles that add up to 90 degrees
what is a supplementary pair?
angles that add up to 180 degrees
Congruent angles/lines
have the same mesure/length
What is an angle
