(10 cards)
Wave
a disturbance caused by a vibration; Waves travel away from the source that makes them.
Medium
A substance, such as agar, in which bacteria or other microorganisms are grown for scientific purposes. A substance that makes possible the transfer of energy from one location to another, especially through waves.
Mechanical Wave
Mechanical Wave- is a wave that is an oscillation of matter, and therefore transfers energy through a medium. While waves can move over long distances, the movement of the medium of transmission—the material—is limited. Therefore, oscillating material does not move far from its initial equilibrium position.Transverse wave-a wave that occurs when the particles of a medium are displaced perpendicularly to the direction of the waveLongitudinal wave-a wave that occurs when the particles of a medium move parallel to the direction of the wave
Crest
Crest-the highest point of a waveTrough-the lowest point of a waveAmplitude-height or “strength” of a wave
Wave length
The distance between one peak or crest of a wave and the next peak or crest. It is equal to the speed of the wave divided by its frequency, and to the speed of a wave times its period.
Frequency
the number of cycles a wave completes in a period of time; the number of times something happens in a period of timeReflection-the throwing back by a body or surface of light, heat, or sound without absorbing it
Trough
The lowest point of a wave
Longitude wave
A wave vibrating in one direction of propaganda
Radiation
The emission of energy as electromagnetic wave or as moving subatomic partials, especially high-energy particles that’s cause ionization
Electromagnetic wave
Definition of electromagnetic wave. : one of the waves that are propagated by simultaneous periodic variations of electric and magnetic field intensity and that include radio waves, infrared, visible light, ultraviolet, x-rays, and gamma rays.
