Describe savannah
A
- Britain turned to southern colonies where they thought they would have large numbers of loyalists
- 1778- Clinton, with 3000 men, captured savannnah and took 500 American prisoners

Describe Charlestown
A
- Cornwallis besieged Charlestown with 7600 men
- forced American troops to surrender and took over 5000 prisoners, 300 artillery pieces and 6000 muskets
- this was the worst american loss in the whole war
- troops took an oath to the king- as Clinton proclaimed that those who didn’t support Britain would be treated as rebels which made neutrality impossible

Who was Nathanael greene
A
- took charge of the continental army in the south
- divided forces and relied on a hit and run tactics
- focused majorly on a strategy of attrition and wearing down the British through guerrilla warfare tactics
- approach was in contrast to the more traditional, direct confrontations favoured by some of the other generals
- often regarded as the man who saved the war in the south and patriot forces continued capturing scattered British outposts
- by mid 1781, only Charlestown, savannah and fort ninety six remained in British hands in South Carolina and Georgia.
