Water Efficiency Flashcards

1
Q

What is an aerator, and is its use acceptable as a water saving strategy?

A

a water flow constrictor attached to the tip of an indoor water faucet to limit the amt of water that flows out of it. Yes this is an acceptable water saving strategy.

Q

Define baseline case and explain its use in the Water Efficiency (WE) category.

A

a standard from which a basis of change can be measured for improvement. The larger the reduction or increase from the baseline, the more points a project will receive for a credit. In WE category - points received for REDUCING water use below a set baseline.

Q

What function does a cooling tower perform?

A

regulates air temp in a facility by using water to absorb heat from air conditioning systems. Water used in cooling towers is considered process water.

Q

Define design case and explain its use in the Water Efficiency (WE) category.

A

the actual project design metrics that are compared against a baseline case to show gains in efficiency. In the WE category, the design case is the building’s projected water usage as well as the goals for achieving water efficiency thru the rating systems.
