CALLS
The primary call is a high-pitched, rapid, and vibrato trill that sounds similar to a rapid sputtering from a toy laser. Flocks commonly give this call when interacting with each other while perched or in flight. also give a high-pitched whistled call and a shorter and higher-pitched contact call.
Bohemian Waxwing
Medium-sized passerine, about the size of European Starling (Sturnus vulgaris), with sleek plumage, long crest, pointed wings, and relatively short, squared tail; total length 20.5 cm, body mass 56 g. Profile in flight reminiscent of European Starling. Adult overall brownish gray with narrow black mask and black chin, gray breast, cinnamon-tinged forehead and malar area, sharply defined dark cinnamon undertail-coverts, and ornate wing pattern, having red, waxlike tips of secondaries, terminal edges of primaries yellow and white, and secondaries and primary coverts tipped white, producing yellow and white wing-stripes. Sexes similar in plumage, but females tend to have smaller black chin-patch with a more diffuse border to grayish breast and fewer and shorter waxy tips on secondaries
