Ways of measuring body Flashcards
(9 cards)
What are the 4 ways measure brain
EEG
ERP
fMRI
Post mortem
What are EEG
electronogrom records changes in electrical activity in brain using electrodes attached to the scalp
Strengths and weaknesses of EEG
Strength- Useful in discovering stages of sleep, epilepsy
Strength - Higher temporal resolution than fMRI - can monitor ongoing activities
L - lower spatial resolution
L - Not invasive enough to discover about certain disorders
What are ERPS
Event related potentials - measures brainwaves triggered by events
Strengths and weaknesses of ERPS
strength- Good temporal validity - better than EEG
Limitation - background noises can get in the way
What are fMRI
- detect changes in blood oxygenation levels in brain
strenght weakneses of fMRI
strength - Good spatial resolution up to 4 images per second
strength - loss less invasive than things like PET
limitation - Expensive
Limitation- Poor temporal validity 5 sec difference between images
What are post mortem scans
- comparison of patients brain with healthy brain
- Any abnormalities assumed to be cause of neurological problem patient had
