Da’if hadith

A

(weak) based on their authenticity

- a report ascribed to the prophet SWS or companions but fails to meet conditions of sahih or hasan

Mu’allaq hadith (hanging)

A

report in which one or more narrators are omitted from the beginning of its isnad by the compiler

  • when the entire chain is omitted and the compiler quotes the Prophet SWS or the companion
  • when the name of the person who narrated the report is omitted

Mursal hadith (loose)

A

Hadith with broken link in its chain at the level of a companion
-A tabi’i reports directly from the prophet SWS, leaving out the companion

Intricate mursal hadith; a student quotes his teacher without ever directly receiving it. implies that he did

-Jurists rejected this as legal proof
but some scholars said if the narrator was trustworthy it can be accepted
-mursal by a companion is authetic

A

  • defect in isnad
  • ash-shuyukh, concealing the sheikh who narrated due to identity weakness
  • can be accepted if they can prove the hadith is accurate
