What is latitude?
Latitude is the distance north or south of the equator.
How does latitude affect climate?
The further north or south of the equator an area is, the colder it will be.
What happens to solar rays closer to the poles?
The rays have a longer distance to pass through the atmosphere and are distributed over a larger area.
How do solar rays behave at the equator?
At the equator, the sun is high in the sky, and its rays travel through the atmosphere for a shorter distance.
Fill in the blank: The heat is distributed over a larger area due to the _______.
[curved shape of the Earth]
True or False: At the equator, solar rays are concentrated on a larger surface area.
False
What is the effect of the Earth’s curvature on climate?
It causes solar rays to be distributed over a larger area at higher latitudes.
