WEATHER Flashcards
(36 cards)
Latitude for temperature
Temp decreases further away you are from the equator.
Latitude for precipitation
Areas closer to equator have more rainfall, this because temp higher so more evaporation so more rain
Distance from sea for temp
Ocean takes much longer to heat up than inland does, so in summer coastal = cooler, in winter coastal = warmer as sea retains heat
Distance from sea for precipitation
Winds that reach west coast usually full of water vapour so bring rain. As winds move east loses rain so less rain inland
Prevailing wind for temp
If blowing from warm regions it’ll bring warm weather, from cold regions then cold weather
Prevailing wind for precipitation
If prevailing wind blows over ocean it will bring rain, if blows over land then brings dry weather
Altitude for temp
For every 100m above sea level, temp decreases by 10 degrees
Altitude for precipitation
Upland areas experience more rain, moist air blows from atlantic ocean, reaches hills, cools down, water vapour condenses into clouds forming rain
Aspect for temp
Places facing south are warmer than places facing north cuz they receive more heat from sun
Aspect for precipitation
Hillside facing moist winds receive more rainfall, in UK this is usually west facing slopes
