2
Q

Latitude for precipitation

A

Areas closer to equator have more rainfall, this because temp higher so more evaporation so more rain

3
Q

Distance from sea for temp

A

Ocean takes much longer to heat up than inland does, so in summer coastal = cooler, in winter coastal = warmer as sea retains heat

4
Q

Distance from sea for precipitation

A

Winds that reach west coast usually full of water vapour so bring rain. As winds move east loses rain so less rain inland

8
Q

Altitude for precipitation

A

Upland areas experience more rain, moist air blows from atlantic ocean, reaches hills, cools down, water vapour condenses into clouds forming rain

27
What is an anticyclone?
This forms in a high pressure weather system, resulting in wind moving in clockwise direction in Northern hemisphere
28
Give 3 characteristics of anticyclone in summer
1) dry + hot 2) Cloudless days 3) Winds are light (clockwise)
29
Give 3 characteristics of anticyclone in winter
1) Dry + cold 2) Frost in morning 3) Fog + mist
30
What is a depression?
Forms when two air masses meet, is low pressure weather system, air rises causes wind to blow anti-clockwise
31
Depression characteristics, name 3
1) Windy weather, unsettled 2) Brings clouds and rain 3) Winds anti-clockwise
32
If number on synoptic chart ---- or more then the area is ----- pressure
1000, high
33
If Isobars are far apart this means, and if close together this means....
Close = strong winds Far = gentle winds
34
Describe problems and benefits of anti-cyclone in summer (4) (Yum, ouch, thirsty and sneeze)
Hayfever, Droughts, Ice cream sales increase, Skin cancer
35
Warm front = ... Warm front also = ... Warm sector = .... Cold front = .... Cold front also = ....
Warm front = Temp rise Warm front also = Heavy rain Warm sector = Rain turns to drizzle Cold front = Temp decrease Cold front also = Heavy rain
