Q

Cause of Beast from the East

A

A change in the Northern polar jet stream, which twisted its direction unexpectedly, drawing cold air to the UK from the East. This bending was caused by an increase in temperature over the Artic. The cold air picked up moisture over the North Sea, bringing snow.
