Occupation-centered Practice description
Concerned with promoting health and well being through occupation
- Using occupation and everyday life activities to facilitate and support engagement in life
What is occupational imbalance?
Example?
person is unable to participate in a broad range of meaningful and valued activities
e.g. hospitalisation
What is occupational deprivation?
Example?
prevented from engaging in occupations over a prolonged period due to external forces
e.g. refugee children in detention refused age appropriate play
What is occupational alienation?
Example?
occupation lacking in meaning or purpose because the person cannot find anything meaningful to do or the spend all their time and energy on tasks they do not value
e.g. lack of meaningful activities on offer in hospital or aged-care facility
What is occupational injustice?
Example?
person is prevented from engaging in occupations in a way that is most meaningful
e.g. children with disability unable to play at playground
What is occupational apartheid?
Example?
chronic established environmental or systemic conditions that deny people the right to participate in society
e.g. laws against people from particular religions from flying to different countries
