What are the 3 locations to give med?
- Thigh

What is the main location to give a med?
- Deltoid
What location do we always give epi?
- Thigh
How do we give an IM admin?
- Alcohol swab the site
- Use the Z-track method
- Pull the skin tightly and insert needle at 90 degrees
- Insert med slowly, 5-10 secs
- Withdraw the needle and press an alcohol swab gently on the spot where the shot was given
Where do we SQ injections?
- Deltoid
How do we give a SQ injection?
- Alcohol swab the site where your giving the injection
- Pinch the site and inject needle at 45 degree angle
*Insert bevel up
Where do we give IN med admin?
- Nastrals
Key things to remember with IN admin?
- Cover one of the nastrals
- Draw up both syringes
- Tilt head back
- No more than 1ml in a nastral
How to draw up a med from a vial?
- Use blunt tip
- Pop off cap- if you don’t touch the “injection” pad you can proceed to draw up med (if you do just wipe with an alcohol swab)
- Draw up air into your syringe
- Push the air into the vial and turn upside down to draw up med
- If used blunt tip switch syringe to IM or SQ needle
What needle should you use for SQ injection?
- 25G-27G, 3/8”-5/8”
Before administering an IN med, what should you observe for in the nares?
- Look for any blood, mucous or obstructions
- Suction if needed
What needle is recommended for IM admin?
- 1”-1.5”, 22-25 G
What is the deltoid max volume?
2 ml
What is the vastus lateralis max volume?
- 5 ml
What meds can we give IM?
- Ketorolac
- Diphenhydramine
- Dimenhydrinate
- Epi
- Narcan
- Dexamethasone
- Oxytocin
