What equipment is required for neonate resus?
- Appropriate PPD
- Cardiac monitor
- OBS Kit
- O2 as per BLS
- Ped resus equipment
What is the procedure?
- Partner should be checking mother for PPH
- Assess neonate for breathing/ crying/ good muscle tone
- If “yes” then give baby to mom and provide warmth
- Clamp and cut cord
- If “no” evaluate respirations and HR (consider SPO2 & cardiac monitor)
- If breathing AND HR is >100 then provide supportive care
- If breathing AND HR is <100 then provide 30 secs of PPV using room air
- Assess the HR (6 secs) if <60 bpm administer 30 secs of CPR and PPV using 100 % O2
- Once HR is >60 stop CPR but continue with PPV until HR is >100
- Provide supportive care (blow by oxygen)
What to do if their is central or peripheral cyanosis?
- Blow by oxygen, create a tent and just using the tubing to give baby O2
What position should we put baby in when doing PPV?
- Sniffing position
- Place padding under baby’s shoulders
- 1:3
What side do we put SPO2?
Put spo2 on the right hand of baby
