Melodic Intonation therapy (MIT)
both compensatory and restorative in that for individuals who are severely limited in oral expression, spoken language is facilitated through exaggerated spoken prosody/melody. Additionally, this technique has been found to foster brain changes that promote speaking
Voluntary Control of Involuntry Utterances (VCIU)
a restorative approach used to improve expressive, propositional communication in people with severe nonfluent aphasia. Patient is provided with a list of words they are familiar with (have been known to say) and are asked to name the target words when shown a flashcard.
Response to elaboration training (RET)
a restorative approach in which clients are shown pictures and prompted to elaborate on what they see and associate with the image
Treatment for Aphasic Perseveration
a restorative approach in which clients who perseverate are trained to reduce perseverations and increase naming skills
