Week 15: Spatial Resolution and Distortion Flashcards
(6 cards)
Spatial Resolution
The degree of sharpness or accuracy of the structural lines actually recorded in the image.
LSF/PSF
Point spread or line spread function. Is the system able to capture and image and see something small that is right next to something else without it blurring too much. We want low PSF/LSF.
LP/mm
Measures the minimum size and space between objects that can be seen on an image. Is the system able to visualize something very small that is close to something else. Can your eye delineate one thing from the other. We want high Lp/mm
MTF
Compares what has been recorded to the available data in the object. Are you able to see there fine details because what was recorded represents the anatomy accurately. Perfect MTF = 1.
Penumbra
Edge gradient. Blurry edges or imperfect unshaped shadow surrounding umbra (proper image).
SNR
Signal to noise ratio. We want high SNR which means there is little background signal. More real signal, less noise.
