A
Automatic exposure control. The goal of AEC is to make sure the IR exposure remains consistent when the thickness or anatomic number of the patient tissues changes. Regulates the time of exposure and therefore the total quantity of x-rays. Located below the grid but before the IR.

A
When AEC is engaged it acts as a means to terminate the exposure and safe guard the patient. Protects patient from over exposure when AEC is being used.
