Maxilla and Palatine
Which is more anterior, hard palate or soft palate?
Hard palate
Three different parts of the pharynx from superior to inferior?
Nasopharynx
Orophayrnx
Laryngopharynx
What makes up the nasal septum?
Vomer
Perpendicular plate of the ethmoid bone
What passes through the cribriform plate?
Olfactory nerve filaments
Within the nose, there are three structures and three spaces. What are they?
Superior turbinate, superior meatus
Middle turbinate, middle meatus
Inferior turbinate, inferior meatus
Space above the superior turbinate?
Spheno-ethmoidal recess
The superior and middle turbinate are part of which bone? What about the inferior turbinate?
Ethmoid bone. Inferior turbinate is its own bone.
What is the area of anterior blood supply to nose where epistaxis often occurs?
Kiesselbach’s plexus
What drains into the: Spheno-ethmoidal recess Superior turbinate Middle turbinate Inferior turbinate
Spheno-ethmoidal recess: Sphenoid sinus
Superior turbinate: Posterior ethmoidal air cells
Middle turbinate: Frontal sinus, maxillary sinus, anterior and middle ethmoidal air cells
Inferior turbinate: Nasolacrimnal duct
Two important structures in the nasopharynx
- Opening of eustachian tube, salpingopharyngeus muscle
2. Adenoids
Important areas on the mandible/TMJ
Condylar process (posterior) Coronoid (anterior) Angle of mandible Mental foramen Mental protuberance
How many incisors, canines and molars in an adult?
Incisors: 8
Canines: 4
Pre-molars: 8
Molars: 12
Muscles of mastication?
Temporal
Masseter
Lateral Pterygoid
Medial Pterygoid
What innervates the muscles of mastication?
V3 branch of the trigeminal nerve
Lingual nerve and Inferior alveolar nerve, which enters into the mandible?
Inferior alveolar nerve. They’re pretty closely associated.
Foramen caecum significance?
Primitive tract between cranial fossa and nasal space. Failure of thyroglossal duct to close can cause thyroglossal cyst.
4 different kinds of tastebuds and their relative position on the tongue.
Filiform - anterior
Foliate - anterior
Fungiform - lateral
Vallate - posterior
Innervation of the tongue
Anterior 2/3: V3 branch of the trigeminal nerve
Posterior 1/3: glossopharyngeal

Sublingual caruncles
Sublingual gland opens into?
Sublingual folds of floor of the mouth
Radiology image of the teeth known as?
Orthopantomogram
Imaging of salivary ducts?
Sialogram

Pharynx superior
False vocal cords superior
