Week 2 Flashcards
(9 cards)
Law of effect
If a stimulus followed by behaviour=reward.
Then
The stimulus is more likely to elicit that behaviour in future.
Systematic empiricism
Empiricism: the practice of relying on observation.
Systematic: science needs to be theory driven (structure) observations that can be tested.
Testable questions
Questions that scientists ask have to be testable through current empirical techniques.
Operational definition of variables
Operational definition removes the concept from the feelings of individual, allowing it to be tested & measured by others.
Defining a concept so as to make it
- distinguishable
- measurable
- understandable
Reliability
Consistency of measuring instrument.
Validity
Extent to which evidence from a research method measures what it is supposed too.
Falsifiability
Theories need to be stated so they can be demonstrated to be false.
Why?,
So we can modify & reject & improve
Verifiability
Needs to be made available to theta for criticism & empirical testing.
Science-practitioner model
Clinical psychs must be trained scientists & health practitioners.
- Research contributor
- Evidence consumer
- Empirical evaluation of treatments
Ethical responsibility to give best treatment possible.
