WEEK 9 Flashcards
(4 cards)
What is a nested design
Levels of nested predictor within each levels of the main predictor are different
What is a block design
All levels of main predictor occur within each level of the blocking variable
How do you test a hypothesis about fixed effects in designs that include random efects?
Check which MS to use in the calculation of the f-value.
DFfixed = p-1
DFrandom q-1
DFrandom = (p-1)(q-1)
DFres pq(n-1)
What is the difference between random and fixed effects
Fixed Effects: Assume that the levels (e.g., individuals, groups) are the only ones of interest. Effects are constant and specific to these levels.
Random Effects: Assume that the levels are randomly sampled from a larger population. Effects vary and are treated as random variables.
