What is giftedness?

gifted students are those who are exhibiting superior performance in a particular domain relative to peers
(Worrell et al., 2019)

Domains: Mathematical, music, art, visualspatial, verbal and interpersonal/ intrapersonal

Prevalence: giftedness

Answer 2

• Similar challenges as estimating prevalence of other conditions (see previous lectures)
• Several models would consider top 1% of students– However, this is as problematic as all other prevalence estimates
• More likely to occur among children from high SES (see week 10)
  – If high-SES children have an overall advantage in achievement, they are also more likely to belong to top 1%
