What is allopathic medicine
Western or conventional medicine focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of disease using scientific knowledge and evidence based practices usually MDs or DOs are trained to diagnose and treat patients using pharmaceutical drug surgery and other medical interventions
What is integrative medicine
It is a medical approach that combines the use of allopathic medicine with alternative complementary therapies focuses on treating the whole person rather than just the symptoms of a disease emphasizes importance of the relationship between the patient and healthcare provider
What does integrative medicine seek to address
Phsyical, emotional mental social and spiritual aspects of health and well being and least invasive treatments to promote healing and prevent disease
What is the difference between allopathic and integrative medicine
Allopathic medicine tends to focus on the use of drugs and surgery to treat medical conditions where integrative medicine tend to focus on the use of non-invasive treatments such as manual therapy and lifestyle changed integrative medicine tries to prevention and wellness through lifestyle changes
What is osteopathic doctors
use a range of techniques including manual therapy and medication to treat patients they believe that the body has the ability to heal itself and the proper structure and function of the musculoskeletal system essential for good health
What is a problem with integrative health
Lack of scientific evidence to support the effectiveness of many integrative medicine interventions

Also some make claims about the effectiveness for their treatments that are not supported by scientific evidence which can lead to patients seeking unproven or potentially harmful therapies

Funding - it can be difficult to fund and run clinical trials on integrative medical techniques
Regulation - Allopathic regulators tend to have the most power and discourage/ prevent physicians from using integrative techniques

Provides that physicians shall not be found guilty of professional misconduct or incompetence solely on the basis that they practice a therapy a therapy that is non-traditional or that departs from the prevaliling medical practice unless there is evidence that proves that the therapy poses a greater risk to a patients health than the traditional or prevaliling practic e
