Week Two - Embryological Development Flashcards
(14 cards)
What is the coacal membrane
After gastrulation there are two areas where mesoderm does not separate ectoderm and the endoderm - the caudal area is called the coacal
What is the name of the primary kidney system?
Pronephros
What is the function of the Pronephros?
The Pronephros does not function in humans but it dos supply the pronephric duct.
Where does the pronephric duct extend to? Why is it important?
It extends from the cervical region to the cloaca. It stimulate the development of the next stage - the mesonephros.
What is important about the mesonephric duct?
It sprouts the ureteric bud.
What does the uterine bud go on to do?
It forms the collecting part of the definitive kidney eg renal Levi’s, major and minor calyx.
What is the metanephros?
It is the definitive kidney - collecting system develops from the ureteric bud and the excretory system develops from the metanephric tissue cap
Why is it that it ISNT the mesonephric ducts that drain in to the bladder?
As the UGS expands it absorbs the mesonephric and instead the ureteric forms its own entrance in to the bladder
What is the cloaca?
A cavity that the intestinal, urinary and genital tracts open in to.
What splits the urogenital sinus and the anal canal?
Urogenital septum
What is at the tip of the urogenital septum
Perineal body
What is left when the allantois is obliterated?
The Urachus
What does the Urachus turn in to?
Median umbilical ligament
Which mesoderm forms the definitive kidney?
Intermediate mesoderm
