Week5 D1. Ch6 Image Charachteristics Flashcards

1
Q

RADIOLUCENT

A

• Appears black or dark on a radiograph
• Insufficient density
• Permits the passage of x-ray beam with little resistance
• Tissues are soft or thin
• Ex: air spaces, soft tissue, dental pulp, periodontal ligament space

Q

RADIOPAQUE

A

• Appears white or light on a radiograph
• Tissues are hard or thick (dense)
• Absorb or resist the passage of the x-ray beam
• Ex: enamel, dentin, bone

Q

DENSITY

A

Refers to overall blackness or darkness on radiograph.
• An increase (or decrease) in mA, kVp, exposure time, and subject thickness will influence the density of a radiograph. See pg. 73 of text - Table 8.1 5th edition
• 6th edition page 51 Table 6-1
