What is Anatomy Flashcards
(21 cards)
What is Anatomy
The study of a structure (in the body) that can be seen grossly
Why is anatomy important.
Allows for understanding of a patients disease, important for those involved in patient treatment, allows for correct clinical interpretation
Main techniques to learn anatomy
Visualisation and observation
What Greek word is anatomy derived from
‘Temnein’. Meaning to cut
Regional approach
Regions of the body are studied separately, all aspects are studied at the same time. Afterwards other regions of the body are studied in similar fashion
Systemic approach
Each system of the body is studied and followed through the entire body. Approach continues until every system has been studied
Wat zijn de verschillende stelsels
- Zenuwstelsel, skelet, spierstelsel, endocrienestelsel cardiovasculaire stelsel, lymfestelsel, ademhalingstelsel, bloedvatenstelsel, spijsverteringsstelsel, ademhalingstelsel, urinestelsel, voorplantingstelsel.
Regional approach advantages and disadvantages
- works well for dissections, but falls short of continuity throughout the body
Systemic approach advantages and disadvantages
Understanding of the entire system throughout body, acquiring significant detail is hard and harder for dissections
Coronal plane
Oriented vertically, divide body into posterior and anterior parts
Sagittal planes
Vertical, at right angle to coronal planes and divide into left and right halves
Transverse, horizontal or axial planes
Divide into superior and inferior planes
Anterior (ventral) and posterior (dorsal)
Describe position of structures relative to front and back of body
Superior and interior
Structures in reference to vertical axis
Median and lateral
Position of structures relative to median sagittal plane and sides of body
Proximal and distal
Reference being closer to or father from structure’s origin
Cranial and caudal
Head/ tail instead of superior and inferior
Rostral
Position of structure in relation to nose
Superficial and deep describe
The relative positions of two structures with respect to the surface of the body.
Superficial region in relation to deep
Is external to the outer layer of the deep fascia. Deep structures are enclosed by this layer.
Structures- skin and mammary glands
Deep structures include
Most skeletal muscles and visceral
