Whopper day 2 Flashcards
(30 cards)
What is metamorphic?
Rarely has pores or oles, rarely has fossils, foliated texture with bands of light and dark rock.Non foliated metamorphic rocks don’t have bands.
What is crystallization?
Process by with atoms are arranged to form a material with a crystal structure.
What is metal?
Minerals are the source of metals such as aluminum.
What is weathering?
The process that takes place as rocks, and other parts of the geosphere are broken down into smaller pieces.
What is deposition?
When water, ice, or wind deposits or drops the rock or earth material. This mostly occur in water.
What are minerals?
Naturally occurring inorganic solid, with a definite chemical composition ,and an ordered atomic arrangement.
What is a gemstone?
Hard colorful mineral that has a brilliant or glassy luster, once cut and polished is called a gem.
What is ore?
A rock that contains a metal or other useful mineral that can be mined and sold for profit.
What is erosion?
The movement of weather rocks by natural forces.
What are mountains?
A large hill that has sides much steeper than the surrounding surface.
What are valleys?

What is latitude?
Gives north/south position of a location in reference from the equator.
What is longitude?
Gives the east/west position of a location.
What is sedimentation?
Solid particles are removed in slow moving streams and lakes.
What is filtration?
When water moves through sand, matter such as silt and clay is removed.
What is aeration?
Surface air trickles over rocks allows impurities to be release in the air.
What are ocean current?
Very important to determining the climates of the continents.
What are surface currents?
Generated mostly by wind . Patterns are determined by wind direction and coriolis effect.
What is density?
Density is how close together the molecules of a substance are or how much mass a substance has in a given space.
