Why Human movement matters Flashcards
(12 cards)
Kinesiology (Human movement)
- Is the study of human movement in ALL its
forms - Its role and importance is understood using
science, the humanities, and the arts
7 Spheres of physical activity
- Self-Sufficiency
-Self-Expression - Work
-Education
-Leisure
-Health
-Competition
How do we use Physical activity to be Self-Sufficiency?
-ADLs (dressing, eating, walking etc)
-Instrumental ADLs - Harder than just ADLs (shopping, cooking, laundry)
-Home Maintenance activities (harder than above)
-If activity is limited it decreases autonomy and quality of life.
How do we use Physical activity for self-express?
-Body language (unconsciously)
-movement (dance, ceremonies, Gestures, use with talking)
- if activity is decreased, ability to communicate and express ourselves creatively is decreased.
3 ways to use self-expression?
Emblems (hand movements that can be translated into words ie: time out)
Illustrators (gestures to u=illustrate what we are saying ie: pointing, punching)
Regulators (Body movements used to guide the flow of a conversation ie: Greetings, partings, gesture to signal the end of a thought)
Education
-Eye movements needed to read
-wrist and had movements needed to write
-movements to learn motor skills (fine and gross)
If limited decrease ability to educate ourselves.
3 ways to learn about Kinesiology and physical activity…
-Physical activity experience
-Professional practice in physical activity
-Scholarly study of physical activity
How do you learn through scholarly study?
-Reading, thoughtful and careful analysis & discussing
-Research and scholarship
- In Kinesiology- theory based courses
- Gives theoretical/conceptual knowledge
How do you learn through professional practice?
- using physical activity to achieve a particular goal
- Working as a personal trainer, coach, athletic therapist etc.
-comes from applied research and a less formal passing down knowledge.
What are fundamental movement skills?
-Set of gross motor skills
-Involve different body parts
-Building blocks for more complex skills
-Used in daily life, games, sports, recreational activities.
