- jibing: turning AWAY from the WIND

TACKING? (5)

A
  • LOOK BACKWARDS to make sure you’re not turning on anyone
  • drop your FRONT HAND to the MAST just below the BOOM
  • PULL DOWN(sail towards back), LEAN BACK
  • ARMS STRAIGHT, KNEES BENT, WIDER STANCE, LOTS OF LITTLE STEPS
  • as board points INTO WIND, swing your body around
  • KEEP RIG AWAY FROM YOU (keep it close, you’re going to go down)

NONPLANING JIBE? (5)

  • BROAD REACH
  • move hands to BACK of BOOM; tip FORWARDS
  • move back foot FURTHER BACK on BOARD (knees bent!)
  • DEAD RUN (wind behind); BACK FOOT PERPENDICULAR, FRONT FOOT FORWARDS;
  • LET GO of BOOM with BACK of HAND(sail flips); HOLD ON TO MAST WITH OTHER HAND; SWITCH HANDS;
