Used for when the YIN def and yang rising. The added bitter cold herbs (Huang Qin, Huang Lian) are draining. don't want to drain when there is a deficiency, really - so need to have a yang excess to use this.
usually in blood def, the patient will feel cold - so if the patient is feeling heat - that indicates this.

Suan Zao Ren and Mu Gua are both sour - which indicates that they affect the LV. This formula is more nourishing, more soothing. Addresses the blood more from the liver perspective - when the Qi is disrupting and depletes the blood or a subtle blood def that is agitated by HT fire or rising yang.
This formula is cooler, more nourishing and not focused on the moving aspect.
