Q

What did Shallice and Warrington do?

A

Conducted research on patient KF who suffers from amnesia and fund that KF’s recall in Sam for digits was very poor when the digits were read aloud to him but was better when he saw them visually

Q

How does KF support the WMM?

A

Suggests there must be different stores within the STM, one to process visual information and one to process auditory information, as the PL was damaged but the VSS intact

Q

What is a critique of a case study?

A

It has low population validity meaning it is difficult to generalise the findings to the wider population as their STM may operate differently

Q

What did Baddeley do?

A

He found that participants had more difficult when performing two visual tasks at the same time (using a pointer to track a light moving around a screen and imagining F and mentally moving the letter) than performing one visual task separately (e.g saying ‘the’ repeatedly)

Q

Why does Baddeley’s research support the WMM?

A

It suggests that both visual tasks are competing for limited capacity of the same slave system whereas doing a verbal and visual task simulatenously, they are delegated to separate slave systems and performance is not reduced as there is no competition for capacity - increasing the credibility
