1 - when the men went to enlist, women took over practical jobs - accountants, bookkeeps and clerks
2 - Nurses overseas or inland (Volunteered in Red Cross, mothering men, knitting socks)
3 - Women’s peace army (activists were given attention during this time)

Casualty clearing centres, hospitals, ships, trains, all near the front lines

Traditional values of the time, as men wanted women to be the subordinate species. Women working in men’s fields was a new concept, so the started at the very bottom. They were also seen as purely temporary
Legal status of Australian women
Feminists were aided in their movement. in 1918, a bill was passed that gave NSW women to stand for election in parliament, be jourers, enter legal system, and become justices of peace. (were still discriminated against)
Feminists fought for wages:
for money not charity
independence
board and food
protection
marriage
Status of women after war and during war
Seen as very ambitious and could usually only obtain work through how much ambition she held. Were spoken highly and lowly of by men at the time
