Working of Heart Flashcards
(11 cards)
What is the cardiac cycle?
The rhythmic sequence of systole and diastole in the heart.
What does the cardiac cycle result in?
Pumping of the blood.
What is the sound of the heart called?
Heart beat (lub-dub).
How does deoxygenated blood enter the heart?
Through the superior and inferior vena cava from the veins.
What valve helps deoxygenated blood enter the right ventricle?
Tricuspid valve.
Where does the deoxygenated blood go after the right ventricle?
To the pulmonary artery through the semilunar valve.
What happens to the deoxygenated blood in the lungs?
It is oxygenated.
How does oxygenated blood enter the left atrium?
Through the pulmonary veins.
What valve allows oxygenated blood to enter the left ventricle?
Bicuspid valve.
What happens when the left ventricle contracts?
Oxygenated blood is pumped into the aorta through the aortic valve.
What does the aorta do with the oxygenated blood?
It divides into arteries and distributes it to the body.
