Writing and balancing Chemical Equations Flashcards
(7 cards)
1
Q
What is a chemical equation?
A
A representation of a chemical reaction using symbols and formulas to show the reactants and products.
2
Q
What are reactants and products?
A
Reactants: Substances you start with (left side)
Products: Substances formed (right side)
3
Q
What is the law of conservation of mass?
A
Mass is neither created nor destroyed in a chemical reaction. The number of atoms must be equal on both sides of the equation.
4
Q
What does a balanced chemical equation show?
A
It shows the same number of atoms of each element on both sides of the equation.
5
Q
What is a coefficient?
A
A number placed in front of a chemical formula to indicate how many units/molecules of the substance are involved.
