Alliteration
The use of over exaggeration for the use of humour or something that isn’t taken seriously.
Hyperbole
A description that can paint an image in one’s mind.
Imagery
Saying something is something that it isn’t.
Metaphor
A statement that seems not serious or confusing but contains the truth or a deeper meaning.
Paradox
A statement that can be taken as sarcasm or a joke.
Irony
The audience knows something that the main character doesn’t know.
Dramatic irony
An action that is shown subtly that can determine what will happen later.
Foreshadowing
Use of words that imply a strong or a harsh sound that create a disturbing atmosphere.
Cacophony
Creates a dramatic pause between a sentence without the use of a comma or full stop.
Caesura.
Saying something is like something.
Simile.
Refers to the repetition of sounds produced by vowels within a sentence or a phrase.
Assonance.
Describing human feelings using nature/weather.
Pathetic Fallacy.
A flaw that brings the main character to its death.
Hamartia
The character can’t see what’s actually going on, due to emotions like greed and want.
Ate
Character speaks to the audience about how they feel and what they’re gonna do etc.
Soliloquy
Creates a sound effect of the thing that’s described.
Onomatopoeia
Three parallel clauses, phrases or words that come after each other without interruption.
Tricolon
Hidden meanings in words or phrases that might confuse the audience.
