Austro-Hungary after Arch-Duke Franz Ferdinand’s death, they declared war on Serbia.

They had an alliance with Russia, Russia had an Alliance with France, France had an Alliance with Britain.

Why did Britain declare war on Germany?
Because they invaded Belgium, who were a neutral country.

supplies could be shipped through the Dardanelles (a narrow strait between the Aegean Sea and the Black Sea) to Russian troops, who were fighting Germany on the Eastern Front.
