What was the Holocaust?
The process that started with discrimination against Jewish people, and ended with millions of people being killed because of who they were
Who was hitler?
The leader of the nazi party
Believed he was superior to others
Become leader in 1921
Who were the nazis?
National socialist German workers party
Established in 1919
People turned to them when lots of German people were poor, hoping they would make change
They set up concentration camps where they sent their enemies to be imprisoned and forced to work, and some were extermination camps, which were designed to kill mass people at once
What was kristallnacht?
9th november 1938
Night of terrible violence against Jews
The night of broken glass - because of all the glass that covered the streets from the shops that were raided
What happened in 1939?
Germany invaded Poland - world war 2
Jewish people lived in ghettos and many murdered
Nazis wanted to get rid of all of Jewish people so set up extermination camps (final solution)
How did the Holocaust end?
Britain, the US, soviet union and allies made way across Europe, discovering the camps
Nazis tried to hide evidence of their camps
