Xray Flashcards
(15 cards)
standard view long bones
AP and lateral
standard view joints
AP, Lateral and oblique
standard view shoulder
AP, Y scapular and axially (for trauma) or AP views w/ IR and ER for non trauma
standard view hips/pelvis
AP and frog leg lateral
steps to read xray
ID normal bones, look for cortical continuity, check alignment, look for extra densities or lucencies, look at adjacent joints, compare to prior images, or CT or MRI is not findings but clinical concern
Arc I (hand)
proximal articular surface of scaphoid, lunate, & triquetrum
Arc II (hand)
distal articular surface of scaphoid, lunate and triquetrum
Arc III (hand)
proximal articular surface of capitate and hamate
lateral view of wrist/hand
radius, lunate, capitate and 3rd metacarpal should line up
fxs: things to look for on X-ray (1-6)
- cortical discontinuity, 2. radiolucent fx lines (white), 3. abnormally white or dense areas, representing overlapping one fragments or impaction of bone, 4. extra or unexplained fragments of bone, 5. soft tissue swelling, joint effusions, 6. callus formation in healing fxs
gamekeeper’s thumb
aka rabbit hunter’s or skier’s them. 6% of all skiing injuries. 50% to the hand. disruption of UCL and first MCP joint.
Stener lesion
related to gamekeeper’s thumb. displacement of Ulnar Collateral Ligament (UCL). superficial to aponeurosis of adductor policies. will not heal properly w/ this displacement and requires surgery.
MUGR
acronym to remember that a Monteggio fx is of the ulna and a Galleazi is a fx of the radius
Monteggia
fx of the ulna and dislocation of proximal radius (nightstick fx)
Galleazi
