What is the treatment for Staph aureus?
Flucloxacillin
What is the treatment for Methicillin resistant Staph (MRSA)?
Vancomycin or Teicoplanin
What is the treatment for severe nosocomial pneumonia?
IV amoxicillin + metronidazole + gentamicin
What is the treatment for mild nosocomial pneumonia?
Amoxicillin + metronidazole
What is the treatment for CAP (CURB 0-2)?
Amoxicillin (if penicillin allergic, use doxycycline)
Use doxycycline if allergic to penicillin.
What is the treatment for CAP (3 or more)?
IV Co-amoxiclav + IV Clarithromycin

IV amox + metronidazole + gentamicin
What is the treatment for recurrent/relapse C. Difficile?
Fidaxomicin

Metronidazole

ORAL Vancomycin (ONLY TIME YOU EVER USE ORAL VANC - you want it to stay in the gut)
Use oral vancomycin to target gut infections.
What is the treatment for TB?
Rifampicin, Pyrazinamide, Ethambutol, Isoniazid - give all 4 for 2 months then Rifampin and Isoniazid for a further 4 months - KNOW SIDE EFFECTS!!!
Side effects include orange tears, hepatic and renal toxicity.
What is the treatment for Pneumocystis carinii in HIV patients?
Co-trimoxazole
What is the first line treatment for acute exacerbation of COPD?
1st line - Amox, 2nd line doxycycline
What is the treatment for Legionnaire’s disease?
Erythromycin or clarithromycin

Ceftriaxone
