What is a standard component?
A pre-made componenet that can be used to complete a dish.
Name some standard components.
Tinned tuna, ready made pastry, chopped tomatoes, jam, ready rolled icing, chopped unions, grated garlic.
What are some advantages of standard components?
Quick, convinient, no skill needed.
What are some disadvantages of standard components?
No skills practised, expensive, can’t make changes
What are the 5 main cereals?
Rye, rice, wheat, maize/corn, oats.
What can wheat be made into?
Flour, bread, cakes, pasta, biscuits.
What can rye be made into?
Ryvitas, rye bread, flour.
What can oats be made into?
Oat cakes, biscuits, flapjack, Granola, porridge.
What can rice be made into?
Rice cakes, rice pudding, risotto, rice noodles.
What can maize/corn be made into?
Corn on the cob, popcorn, tortillas, doritos, sweet corn.
