25
Is a physical change often reversible without the use of a chemical reaction?
yes
26
What are evidence of a physical change?
○ Changed shape ○ Changed state ○ Dissolved ○ Mixed ○ Non-permanent colour change ○ changed form
27
Physical change
When the physical properties of a substance change in some way, but no new chemical substance is formed;mostly reversible
28
Chemical change
Where one or more substances undergo a chemical reaction and a new substance, or substances is formed; mostly irreversible
29
Is a chemical change often reversible without the use of a chemical reaction?
No
30
What is evidence of a chemical change?
○ Permanent colour change ○ Solid (precipitate) formed in solution ○ Change in temperature ○ Energy in the form of light or sound produced ○ Gas given off.
31
Expansion
-When particles get exposed to high temperature, they absorb some of the energy, and turns it into kinetic energy. The particles move more rapidly, and thus causes them to expand
32
Contraction
- When particles cools down, the particles lose the energy, and thus move less slowly which causes them to contract
33
Mixing
- It never goes togeather in the first place and can be taken apart with a sift.
34
Dissolving
- When the solute gets dissolved in the solvent, it takes time to spread out evening, but even when it is spread out, no new chemical is formed.
35
Precipitate
- The formation of a solid from a solution is an indication of chemical change Unable to dissolve in water, so when its formed it makes the solution look cloudy before settling.
36
Brownian motion
the random movement of particles in fluids and gases.
37
What are the columns called and the rows called in the periodic table?
It is called groups in columns and Periods in the rows in the Periodic table.
38
What is the number right above the elements
atomic number
39
How to find neutrons?
Atomic mass-atomic number
40
Where to find the Atomic mass?
At the bottom of every element square
41
Does a neutrally charged atom have equal electrons and protons?
Yes
42
What is the composition of an atom?
protons and neutrons form a nucleus in the middle, and electrons orbiting the nucleus
43
Where is the atomic number?
protons or the big number in the top left corner
44
Atomic mass
protons + neutrons
45
Families
they share similar properties.
46
What are properties of metals?
shiny ductile conductive Not part of test ^ | like to donate electrons malleable
47
What are properties of non-metals?
dull like to take electrons brittle
48
properties of noble gasses
don't react with anything
49
bond
Strong force of attraction that holds atoms togeather
50
compound
substances made from two or more different types of atoms 2 or more different atoms chemically bonded togeather
51
atom
the smallest piece of substance you can have makes up all matter don't have a charge atoms are made of three things, protons, neutrons and electrons
52
How to find electrons in an atom?
Protons=Electrons
53
Ion
is an atom that has a charge. Electrons is not equal to protons
54
How to find neutrons in an atom?
Atomic mass-atomic number
55
How to find protons in an atom?
It is the atomic number
56
Atomic mass
neutrons+protons
57
pure
only one substance repeated over and over
58
Can molecules be compounds?
yes
59
polymer
a large molecule made of many repeating smaller units called monomers
60
Are changes of the state of matter a chemical change?
No, because it doesn't create a new substance, can be changed back,
61
precipitant
when a new solid gets formed when two liquids put togeather makes a solid
62
Is dissolving a physical change?
yes.
63
How to write a chemical formular?
The more metal the element goes first (not required for year 8) The element goes first, always capitalized. e.g. (S) If the element has more than one letter, the first one has to be capitalized, and then the second one has to be lower case. If there is more than one of that element, write the number or elements on the bottom close to it e.g.(S_2(I don't know how to write it in here))
64
Are all equations equal?
yes, they have to.
65
How to balance equations.
You cannot change the number at the bottom, and can only add a number so: H_2 +O_2 ->H_2O 2H_2+O_2 = 2H_2O
66
Fun fact!!!
Putting Citric acid and sodium bicarbonate togeather can make an ice pack. haha
67
Changing from a gas to a solid
disposition you are dying
68
changing from a solid to a gas
sublimation
69
kinetic energy
energy of movement
