Yearly Science Flashcards
(31 cards)
Essential components of a circuit
Wire, Cell, Power Source
Difference between Series and parallel circuit
Series circuits are when components are connected next to each other and parallel circuits are when the path divides into two or more.
What is a current
The rate at which electricity flows through a conductor.
What is Voltage
The difference in electrical energy between two points.
Ohm’s law
at a constant temperature, the electrical current flowing through a fixed linear resistance is directly proportional to the voltage applied across it.
Use of ammeter
To measure electrical current
Use of Voltmeter
To measure electrical difference between 2 points
Symptoms of non-infectious diseases
- fatigue is a symptom of non- infectious disease as energy is being put in to defend the body making the body more tired.
- Fever
- loss of appetite
- Malaise
- sweating
Symptoms of infectious diseases
- Fever is a common defense against infectious diseases as the body increases its temperature to make the immune system more active.
- Diarrhea
- Fatigue
- Muscle Aches
- Coughing
Chemical Defenses
- Enzymes and Chemicals
- Antimicrobial Peptides
Physical Barrier
- Skin
- Mucus
- Saliva
Disease
A malfunciton in the human body or organ because of a pathogen
Symptom
Any phenomenon that serves evidence of an event
Pathogen
A disease causing agent
Antigen
Any substance that creates antiboies
Antibody
A Y-shaped protein used as a primary defense against pathogens
How bacteria can be resistant to antibiotics
When people take antibiotics they kill the ones that are not resistant and leave the ones that are to multiply more
describe using examples how developments in technology have advanced biological understanding
Technologies such as the microscope have helped us understand our biological understanding as it allows us to see how bacteria move and react under certain conditions
The law of conservation of energy
Energy cannot be created or destroyed it can only be transformed and transferred
Renewable sources of energy
- Geothermal
- Wind as there is an unlimited source of wind as long as the sun is still burning.
- Solar
Non-renewable
- Coal
- Oil
- Nuclear
Describe how in energy transfer the end will not be 100% efficient
Things such as heat are created when energy is transferred and transformed which reduces the total amount of useful energy making it not 100% efficient
Identify the structure of the earth
- Crust The uppermost layer of the Earth.
- Mantle The second most upper layer of the Earth right above the Outer Core.
- Outer Core a dense layer that contains superheated rock or magma.
- Inner Core a super dense layer which contains solid iron and heavy metals as the pressure from the other layers compound onto it making it a solid
Describe evidence about continental drifts
The continents seem to piece it together
Fossils can be found away from their origin
