Q

Describe how the DNa molecule replicates

A
  1. DNA Helicase causes a DNA double helix molecule to unzip and unwind.
  2. This breaks hydrogen bonds between complementary bases.
  3. These separate strands now act as a template to make new DNA strands.
  4. Free nucleotides in the nucleus pair with the exposed nucleotides on the unzipped strands of DNA.
  5. Hydrogen bonds reform between nucleotides and complementary bases on “old” DNA strands
  6. Phosphodiester bonds form between adjacent new nucleotides and are catalysed by polymerase.
