Q
Describe how the DNa molecule replicates
A
- DNA Helicase causes a DNA double helix molecule to unzip and unwind.
- This breaks hydrogen bonds between complementary bases.
- These separate strands now act as a template to make new DNA strands.
- Free nucleotides in the nucleus pair with the exposed nucleotides on the unzipped strands of DNA.
- Hydrogen bonds reform between nucleotides and complementary bases on “old” DNA strands
- Phosphodiester bonds form between adjacent new nucleotides and are catalysed by polymerase.
