Pancreas
Definition: Produces hormones helping regulate how your body processes sugar (Glucose)
Location: Located horizontally behind the stomach
Functions:
Exocrine function which helps digestion (produces enzymes: peptidases, proteases, lipase, amylase; produces bicarbonate ions to neutralize acid)
Endocrine function that regulates blood sugar
By releasing Insulin – a hormone made in the Pancreas
Lipase break down fat into fatty acids and glycerol
Liver
Definition: Produces a bile to help break down and absorb fats, helps to remove toxins in your blood such as alcohol
Location: Upper right abdomen
Gallbladder
Definition: Receives bile from under the liver and stores it until it is needed in the digestive system to break down fats and cholesterol.
Location: Under liver, on the right side of the addmon.
Gallbladder and Liver Connection
Gallbladder
The hepatic surface of the gallbladder is connected to the capsule surrounding the liver.
Liver
The liver is located in the upper right-hand portion of the upper abdominal cavity, below the diaphragm on top of the stomach, right kidney, and intestine.
The liver is connected to the gallbladder through the cystic ducts.
