What is the cell wall?
The cell wall is a non-living part found only in plant cells. It is freely permeable, allowing substances in solution to enter and leave the cell without hindrance.
What are the living parts of a cell?
The living parts of a cell include the cell membrane, cytoplasm, and nucleus.
What is cytoplasm?
Cytoplasm is a semi-liquid substance that occupies most of the cell within the cell membrane. It appears colorless, partly transparent, and somewhat watery under a compound microscope.
What are the components of the cytoplasm?
The components of the cytoplasm include granules, endoplasmic reticulum, vacuoles, fat droplets, mitochondria, Golgi apparatus, ribosomes, lysosomes, centrosome (only in animal cells), and plastids (only in plant cells).
What is the function of mitochondria?
Mitochondria are the cell’s energy producers, where cell respiration occurs to release energy stored as ATP. They are known as the ‘powerhouses of the cell’ and contain their own DNA.
What is the endoplasmic reticulum?
The endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is an irregular network of double membranes distributed over the entire cytoplasm. It connects with the cell membrane at its outer end and with the nuclear membrane at its inner end.
What is the Golgi apparatus?
The Golgi apparatus is the delivery system of the cell, forming a supporting framework and serving as a pathway for the distribution of materials within the cell.
What are ribosomes?
Ribosomes are small granules that serve as the sites of protein synthesis. They can be found freely in the cytoplasm or attached to the membranes of the endoplasmic reticulum.
