They include the ability to understand, elicit and assess how much info a patient wants.
It allows healthcare professions to fulfils their duties

•Promotes empathy and understanding
• Increases patient satisfaction

The communication cycle:
1st SENDER EXPRESSES A MESSAGE - message has a purpose and goal
2nd MEDIUM TRANSMITS
3nd RECIPIENT INTERPRETS THE MESSAGE - so make sure u construct the message and deliver with the correct audience in mind, what do they know and what do they need to know? Get rid of distractions, discomfort and prejudice.
4th FEEDBACK RETURNS - enables sender to see effectiveness and refine if needed, can smile nod have questions, emails and cycle reserves till purpose is complete.

• Can enhance understanding and memory
• Can empower patients prior to attending for an appointment
