What are Compensatory Strategies?
Techniques that help individuals work around cognitive impairments by adapting behaviour or environment, rather than restoring the impaired function.
Examples: using reminders, alarms, diaries, mnemonics, and reducing distractions. (Robertson & Murre, 1999)
How is Technology used in cognitive rehabilitation?
Zhang et al. (2003) supports the use of computer-assisted cognitive rehabilitation (CACR) tools, including interactive software, virtual environments, and multimedia systems.
These technologies offer structured, repetitive, and adaptive training to improve areas like memory, attention, and problem-solving.
How are drugs used in the treatment of Alzheimer’s?
Perterson et al. (2005) support use of cholinesterase inhibitors for treating mild cognitive impairment (MCI), particularly as a possible way to slow progression to Alzheimer’s disease.
They found that these drugs may offer modest cognitive benefits, though not a cure.
