The three antis campaign
Was an initiative to deal with the parties internal problems
In 1951 - Mao declared there must be a cleanup within the party
Mao believed there was too much corruption and bureaucracy within both the party and the government
However this campaign just ended up removing any opponents of the CCP
Those who were targeted were forced to admit their guilt
These meetings were called struggle meetings
The five antis movement
Movement launched in 1952 and focused on 5 negative areas of society
- Bribery
- Tax evasion
- Theft of state property
- Breach of government contracts
5.stealing of economic information from the state
The main targets were the bourgeoisie
People were encouraged to find information to use against their former bosses and business owners
Those who were found guilty - paid fines and sell interest in companies
This was useful for the CCP because it enriched the CCP and increased their control
Influence of the PLA
Terror movements were used by the PLA
Terror movements would often target organised crime
The PLA executed those involved with organised crime, and then they would charge the dead persons family for the cost of the bullet that they used
The Laogai system
A network of labour camps
Were set up to instil “reform through labour”
This was just a way to deal with political opponents
There were around 1.3 million people imprisoned by 1955
The camps would force inmates to attend brainwashing sessions

Was useful in enriching the CCP and increasing control and power
